I recently had the good fortune to read Atul Gawande’s New Yorker Magazine article entitled, “Personal Best: Top Athletes and Singers Have Coaches. Should You?”.
Gawande is a cardiac surgeon who wanted to know whether personal coaches could really improve a professional’s performance. After studying the effectiveness of coaches in the case of athletes, teachers and singers; he decided to hire a personal coach to see if it would improve his performance as a cardiac surgeon. He hired another cardiac surgeon who he admired for the task, and his performance and effectiveness as a surgeon dramatically improved. Gawande found that a coach provided an outside set of ears and eyes which provided objective observations aimed at promoting improved technique.
No doubt estate planning professionals can benefit from hiring a coach to review their forms, counseling techniques and business systems so as to increase their effectiveness as well as the profitability of their practices.
After practicing for over thirty-five years in the estate planning field, I am eager to assist estate planning professionals improve their effectiveness as estate planners as well as the financial profitability of their practices. From time to time, I have hired consultants to work with me on business systems and other aspects of my practice. What I am offering to do is work with estate planners, particularly attorneys, on an integrated basis so as to improve the quality of the estate planning documents that they provide their clients as well as sharing my time-tested counseling techniques, business and marketing systems.
Anyone interested in exploring the idea of engaging me to assist them as a mentor “coach” to develop and enhance their estate planning practice, please contact me by e-mail at fbdoyle@advancedlegaltraininginstitute.com.
